Birding
Whether you’re a keen birder or beginner; our lodge gardens and surrounding bush are home to an astounding number of bird species. In the Chirundu / Rifa area there are over 350 species of birds to be seen, some specials include African skimmers Southern carmine bee eaters, and Narina trogons.
Boat Cruises
If you’re not a keen fisherman but still want to experience the Mighty Zambezi from a different perspective, a 2hr sundowner cruise is the perfect relaxing activity.
You are likely to see several species of wildlife, including hippo, crocodiles, buffalo, impala and more! You may even see some shy bushbuck coming down for a last drink or elephants swimming across the river to the islands. Each cruise promises unforgettable sunsets and amazing photographic opportunities
Our sundowner cruises are the perfect opportunity to drift quietly down the river with a refreshing drink in hand, gameviewing , birdwatching & just appreciating the beautiful scenery all around you.
Fishing
There are loads of freshwater species of fish in the Middle Zambezi river section, not least of all being the famous & formidable Tigerfish. Trophy Tigerfish have been caught in our sectio of the Zambezi by anglers of all ages, with adult fish reaching sizes of 11kg (24lb) and above. Other species include the huge Vundu, Nyembwe(robustus), Bream(tilapia), Chessa, Nkupe, Bottlenose, Cornish Jack, Catfish, Electric Barbel, and the rather aptly named Squeaker.
Our resident guides will ensure that your fishing excursion is customized to suit your needs & to keep you as comfortable as possible. We have a Strict Catch & Release Policy at Jecha & encourage good fishing practices like sufficient revival of the fish after a fight, before its release. We do not allow guests to take fish home for ‘wall mounts’. If you require this – a good quality photo & a quick measurement will be sufficient for your taxidermist to make a synthetic replica.
For those looking to explore the river’s vastness, we offer pontoon boat rentals. However please note that we do not supply fishing gear. We encourage our guests to bring their own equipment, ensuring they have the familiar tools that match their skill level and preferences.
Fishing Shirts
Our branded fishing shirts are available to purchase from reception. They provide great protection from the Chirundu sun and help keep you cool on a hot day, while also looking great and providing a comfortable fit. Some say they may also increase your changes of bringing in a big tiger!
Functions & Events
Jecha is the perfect venue for a unique & breathtaking wedding. Situated right on the Zambezi river bank, we have unrivalled river views, spacious gardens as well as a gorgeous campsite to host receptions of up to 180 pax. There are good ablutions & catering is done on site. Every wedding is tailor-made to suit the bride & groom & ensure their wedding is unique.
We take great pride in providing a seamless experience.
Although our lodge sleeps 22 pax, there is plenty of accommodation around Chirundu & we can help you find your guests’ accommodation. As an added bonus we are only a short drive from the main highway, with no 4×4 needed to access the camp.
